Cancun Day 6 - Thur May 1

 It’s Thursday.  We are still in Cancun enjoying the beach, pool, maid service, and bartenders!  Hit the pool  by 9.  Took a normal lunch and were back in our chairs by 1 pm.  Called it at 4, took showers and then a taxi to La Isla - the shopping mall about a mile up the road.  Bought stuff for the grandkids, some flavored tequila, and then ate dinner there.  Back to our rooms for some more cards, and here is an interesting story.

Game 1 of bid euchre tonight.  I deal.  Mom gives an opening bid.  Nick says, I’m going to Shoot the Moon in low.  To my disbelief he says this because I too have a Moon Shooter in diamonds.  Nick grabs the kitty and has a lay down without taking a card from me, his partner.  Looking at the kitty, I too have a lay down without taking a card from him!  Impossible odds!  Two lay down shooters in the same hand without needing an additional 5th card.  First hand, two shooters, game over.  I told my bride at least five times that this would make the blog.  Shelby made some comment about she and Sandy getting double lay downs to win.  The odds of it happening once in your lifetime are so low that have it happening twice is an impossibility.  

We did slip up and let the girls win one more game tonight.  Score now stands at 18 - 2 in favor of the Good Guys.  Unger would be happy as that’s what winners do!

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday DEC 1

Most of us slept 12 hours, but one of us (Lorra) got up at 4:30 and went down to reserve our chairs.  Folks straggled in, but we were all sunbathing by 10 am.  We took our own drinks down to the pool since the swim-up bar does not open until 11.  You can bet the house on the fact that we were there waiting at 10:55 am for our second round of drinks. We ate lunch at the pool-side restaurant and then some of us went for a swim in the ocean.  It was rough today.  Not sure when I will get the sand out of my ears!  We relaxed in the pool or by the side of the pool until about 4 when the sun went down behind the hotel.  We are in Cancun proper, staying at the Royal Sands.   On this trip are Kathy & Alex (Alex’s parents are at the house handling the grandkids), Hailey Wilson and fiancé Harrison Magee, and Lorra & Adam Archibald (Joe is at the house).  We have Nick and all the grandkids watching our house and feeding the pets while we are gon...

Cancun Day 7 - Fri DEC 6

It was a day like any other day… up and at the pool by 9.  Lunch at the pool restaurant at Noon.  Lots of photos.  Celebrated with shots at 4.  Showers and then dinner at 6 down at the buffet, which was not a buffet tonight but they did have an awesome dessert table - where most folks had more than just a single dessert.  Back to the rooms to pack and clean up.  The other six are leaving in the morning.  We retired folks?  We are staying an additional two days so that we do not have to fly out on a Saturday with the rest of the world - and also because we can stay longer since, as aforementioned, we are retired! Cancun Day 4 - Tues DEC 3

Lorra, Adam, Harrison, Hailie, Alex, and Kathy got up and were out the door by 0800.  They jumped into a very comfortable, luxurious taxi with the smoothest suspension they’ve ever encountered for a 1-hour drive S to XCaret.  They spent the day there exploring - and Lorra even explored the Men’s changing room - or at least the parts she didn’t want to see.  Feel free to ask her what has been seen… Sandy and I rolled out at 9 and went to get pastries for breakfast.  We hit the pool at 10 and had to switch locations thrice to avoid the wind, shady palm trees, and shadows from the hotel.  We ate lunch pool side and Sandy sent a nasty photo to Nick of her banana monkey with the ocean in the background. We all returned close to 3 pm.  Showers were taken and then we went down to La Veranda for dinner.  It was sushi night.  Sandy was not impressed.  The rest of us did okay with stir fry, sushi, and some hot sauce that is really going to hurt tomorro...
