Cancun Day 5 - Thur DEC 4

 One of us got up at 7 while the female side of this partnership slept until 8:30.  We went down to the breakfast buffet because we are going to have a late lunch, because we are having a late dinner at the steak house - reservations at 7 pm and that’s late for us.  

We stayed on the kiddie pool deck this morning and for the first time this week there was a steady breeze.  Thank goodness too as it would have been even hotter to lay out in 86 degree F (30 C) weather.  Which, BTW is 80 degrees warmer than home right now!!!  We are going to freeze our little backsides off when we return.  Any sympathy?  Didn’t think so…

We called it quits about 4:30 and took showers (plural, much to my dismay).  This was so that we could be in the lobby for the Christmas party and the lighting of the tree at 5.  We did buy a raffle ticket as the resort was raising money for their kids’ foundation.  Prizes included: very expensive bottles of liquor, two free days at the resort, several spa treatments, resort excursions (cenote diving, XCaret, dolphin swims), $200 gift certificates at the resort restaurants and multiple gift baskets.  Alas, we did not win anything but it was close.  The guy one room down won an hour-long massage.  I was laughing hard as they called off the room number… G, 1, 5, 4!  So close.  That would have been perfect as Sandy HATES the spa.  

I can report that Sandy was a winner - she didn’t lose a single game of corn hole today.  Of course that is only because we didn’t play corn hole today!  

Dinner was nice.  Sandy had a ribeye that she requested be cooked well done.  Nope.  It was quite rare.  I asked that my tuna steak be cooked well done and it came out perfectly medium - just as I like my fish to be cooked (unless it is sushi).  Two people in the restaurant had birthdays and we know this because the staff sang to them.  I told our waiter that it was Sandy’s birthday tomorrow (Fri, Dec 5) at that she was about to turn 59!  Of course she complained about that number.  I said, hey, all I know is that you are older than me!  And yes, I planned ahead and have already purchased her gift and presented it to her prior to coming down.  It’s hard though to find something for her as she already has me!  I considered getting her a mirror so she could reflect on how awesome she has it…

Back to the room to watch Thursday night football.  The broadcast was in Spanish so we did not understand much, but at least we got to watch the game - well, one of us did.  The birthday girl crashed at halftime.  We did book our return taxi trip to the airport for Saturday morning.  Leaving at 8:30 for a flight at Noon.  Should land back in Indy by 3:30 or before.

    Hmmm. I get thrown under the bus for sleeping yet I see no mention in any of the posts of how many naps the "power of the pen" has taken. He even said today am I on 3 or 5 or who knows. Yeah. We've definitely lost count of that number.

 Wow.  Short night, like 2.5 hrs but that’s still 2 more hours than my bride.  Headed for the airport at 4 am to crystal clear skies under the star-decked canopy of the universe.  Traffic was light and the airport not too crowded.  Ran into Steve & Glenda Clossin who were on the same flight down here.  Seems both families like to take this week as vacation since we meet up quite frequently in the airport. Flight was smooth and we set a standard that can hypothetically be beat but odds are will never:  plane parked at the closest gate to immigration.  We were the only plane arriving and as we walked up, a second line opened up making us the first in line.  From plane to baggage claim was maybe 5 mins.  No lines at the restrooms.  Sandy’s luggage was second off.  And here’s where the improvement can come - my suitcase was second to last off.  Walked out to private taxi and were in the van before Sandy could get her flops...

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, April 27, 2025

 Sandy and I crashed at 8 pm Saturday night and we did not get up this morning until 8 am.  We put on our suits and slathered before heading to the pool.  Sandy met Nick and Shelby at the pastry shop for breakfast.  And then we waited until 11 am for the bar to open.   We ate lunch at the pool restaurant.  We re-slathered with sunscreen and then stayed at the pool for drinks, naps, and dips to cool off before calling it a day at 5:30.  We took showers and then played two games of cards before heading off to dinner.  Tonight’s fare was not the buffet but a full menu.  Nick and I had fish and the girls had chicken. We did meet our concierge at the pool this morning.  She set us up with reservations for three evening meals - two here at the resort and one steak house off-site.  Other than that, we have no trips / excursions planned.  Our goal is a solid week of lounging around the pool and occasionally checking out the ocean - whi...

Cancun Day 4 - Tues APR 29

 Lather, Rinse, Repeat.  Up at 7:30.  On the pool deck by 8:30.  Lunch at restaurant at Noon.  And here’s where some adventure comes in - someone “borrowed” on of our deck chairs while we were at lunch.  No, they were not sitting in it, but they had moved it and put their stuff on it.  Why do I say it was “ours?”  Because the resort gives you flags to post on the chair allowing you to claim it for the day so long as you do not abandon it for more than 2 consecutive hours - which we had not done.  Besides, my shoes were still sitting under the chair.  To me, no worries.  After putting on more sunscreen I will rightfully reclaim my chair and apologize for their misunderstanding should there be any type of confrontation. Sandy and I beat Shelby and Nick back to the pool deck.  I politely take any extra stuff - towels, sunscreen, shoes - and relocate it to another one of their chairs.  Then we turn our chairs to face W so we g...
