Finally Home - Tuesday, June 23

We got up at 7 am on our last day in Rome.  We ate a quick contenintal breakfast at the hotel and our driver was waiting our pick-up at 8.  The traffic in Rome was thick.  At least it was heavier than I thought it would be.

The Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is located right on the coast, about 45 mins from downtown, depending on traffic.  The layout was quite easy once we figured out how to proceed.  All went very smoothly.  We boarded our plane and went wheels up at 12:15.  We had 9 hours of flight time and landed in Philadelphia at 3:30 pm.  And then the weather hit.

Our gate changed, then changed back.  Then our 6:30 pm flight was canceled while we switched gates again.  We rebooked to a 9:30 pm flight and switched gates again.  We ate dinner and got ready to board the plane and delayed, and then delayed again until finally after 9.5 hours in the Philly airport we finally went wheels up at 1:00 am.  We landed in Indy at 3:30 and collected our luggage.  We drove Mom home and arrived at the house at 5 am local or 11 am Rome time, which equals 28 hours door to door.  This was all due to weather and couldn’t be helped.  We don’t blame the airlines, but wow we were tired puppies.

I let Tango out and we took a walk.  Got a picture of the sunrise.  I stayed up until 8:30 am.  Took a 3-hr nap and then started mowing.  We went to bed about 10:30 and both woke back up at 3 am with leg cramps.  Been rough trying to catch up on sleep.  And you know what, we’d do it all again.

I was walking Tango again right before bed and captured the sun setting the same day…

Glad to be home safe.  Had a great trip.  Hope you enjoyed coming along with us.

Mediterranean Cruise - Day 1 = Travel

 We left Mulberry at 8:30 this morning, Friday, June 12, 2026.  We met Andy, Michelle, Austin, and Bill at the airport.  Check-in and Security were simple and easy.  We were awaiting our flight to New York by 10:30.  Good thing we were not heading to Chicago as everything was delayed due to severe weather (tornados!). We fly overnight to Barcelona and spend the day there before embarking our ship on Sunday.  Out for the next ten days.  Sure to be an adventure! Will keep this blog updated for family and friends who wish to “travel” along with us. The kids stayed home to watch the house and feed the pets and run the puppy whilst we are away - much to their dismay, I’m sure. Cancun ‘25 - Sat NOV 29

 Wow.  Short night, like 2.5 hrs but that’s still 2 more hours than my bride.  Headed for the airport at 4 am to crystal clear skies under the star-decked canopy of the universe.  Traffic was light and the airport not too crowded.  Ran into Steve & Glenda Clossin who were on the same flight down here.  Seems both families like to take this week as vacation since we meet up quite frequently in the airport. Flight was smooth and we set a standard that can hypothetically be beat but odds are will never:  plane parked at the closest gate to immigration.  We were the only plane arriving and as we walked up, a second line opened up making us the first in line.  From plane to baggage claim was maybe 5 mins.  No lines at the restrooms.  Sandy’s luggage was second off.  And here’s where the improvement can come - my suitcase was second to last off.  Walked out to private taxi and were in the van before Sandy could get her flops...

Barcelona Sat June 13

Ate lunch at the snack bar in the hotel.  Wasn’t too shabby.  Grabbed two cabs and drove to the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia.  The Pope was here last week to bless the facility, and we are glad we didn’t have to fight those crowds!  The exterior of the facility is finally complete, like after 200 years or something.  The cranes and scaffold can still be seen, but they are being removed.  Next remodel is an addition and then interior work.  Very tall, very massive building! Walking up to the Basilica Standing in front of the building.  Tickets to enter are not available until Fri, Jun 26! Plan ahead if you’re ever wishing to see it from the inside! Next we took a taxi to the Castillo de Montjuic (built in 1640) - a beacon of Barcelona’s rich history standing like a sentinel atop Montjuic hill.  To get there, we took a single cable car up, but broke ourselves into two cable cars coming back down just for more room.
