Cancun - DEC 02 - Day? Wednesday

Ok, I'll be honest with you.  I know it's Wednesday only because my pill container had pills in it for Wednesday when I got up today.  Now, if I have forgotten to take any pills during the week, then I am lost.  But then again, I only need to know the day of the week so that we can catch our flight back home.  I can also tell that the redundancy is catching up to folks.  When the week started we had nearly 30 people checking out our days in the sun.  Now?  Now we are down to 11.  The repetition has gotten to you as well.

That's fine.  I shall keep it short.  Today was most like Monday.  Up and out by 8.  In our pool chairs by 9.  Ate at the Char-Hut.  Drank lots of adult beverages.  Mostly cloudy, but no rain.  The ocean was churning.  Not large waves, but very powerful ones that started way out and came all the way to shore with gusto.  Oh yeah, and it's super windy.  Back to the hotel at 4 to shower.

Super windy outside.  We ate inside for Asian buffet.  Then we hit the sports bar for shots, once again.  Back to the room by 8:30 pm.  We really are getting old...

    Doesn't look very crowded??? I have looked for you out by the pool, but never found any orange shirt! Pictures indicate everyone is having a good time :-) Just remember: you do have tickets to come home, ha!

      Alex and I both had our orange shirts on in the beginning of the week, so then we both took them off. We sit in the middle of Phase 2 in the morning before lunch, and then on the sundeck in the afternoon - at least that has been our custom for the past 6 days. If the rain stops today, that's where we will be again.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
