Cancun Fall 2024 - Travel on Day 1

We woke to our alarm at 0300 on Saturday, NOV 30, 2024.  Got ready, loaded the suitcases and headed out the door at 0407.  We drove to Fast Park S of the airport and took the bus to departures.  Lines were long, but we still made it through check-in and Security with plenty of time.  Alex had a mild heart attack as he was not allowed thru Security since his birthday was incorrect on his ticket.  Seems that Kathy either fat-fingered “96” or she was trying to take a vacation without Alex!  You decide.

The flight was late to take-off as we had to de-ice.  Yep, it was 15F (-9.5C) when we left Indy.  Direct flight straight into Cancun.  No issues getting into the country and the eight of us took one taxi to the Royal Sands.  Check-in took a long time as the computer systems went down, but we finally got our rooms and then went directly to lunch at about 1 pm.

We hit the pool deck and laid out until it was time to take showers before dinner.  We ate at the local restaurant - it was Italian night.  After dinner we watched a little bit of college football but most of us were already asleep by 8:30 pm.

The weather for the week looks awesome… highs of 80F (27C) with lows of 76F (24C) with only a 1% chance of rain this week.

    I’m thinking Kathy wanted Alex to stay behind.

    Also, I hope you get sunburned because frostbite is the best I can hope for here.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday DEC 1

Most of us slept 12 hours, but one of us (Lorra) got up at 4:30 and went down to reserve our chairs.  Folks straggled in, but we were all sunbathing by 10 am.  We took our own drinks down to the pool since the swim-up bar does not open until 11.  You can bet the house on the fact that we were there waiting at 10:55 am for our second round of drinks. Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. Cancun Day 7 - Fri DEC 6

It was a day like any other day… up and at the pool by 9.  Lunch at the pool restaurant at Noon.  Lots of photos.  Celebrated with shots at 4.  Showers and then dinner at 6 down at the buffet, which was not a buffet tonight but they did have an awesome dessert table - where most folks had more than just a single dessert.  Back to the rooms to pack and clean up.  The other six are leaving in the morning.  We retired folks?  We are staying an additional two days so that we do not have to fly out on a Saturday with the rest of the world - and also because we can stay longer since, as aforementioned, we are retired!
