Spring Break Day 2 - Sunday Mar 15 2026

My bladder got me up at 6:30 am today.  I read about 50% more of my book before others showed their face in our room.  We slathered up and I headed to the pool to join Kathy, Alex, Lorra and Adam.  Sandy, Andy, and Michelle went to breakfast.  Austin was not moving yet.

Alex and I played some cornhole to warm up.  Alex scored one point in three games!  Not much of a warm-up for him.  Then Andy and Austin joined us and we teamed up old guys versus young guys.  The old ones beat the young guys 2-0.  Then we switched to me and Alex versus the Albitz boys.  Then we realized who the loser was = Austin.  He never won a game today!  Me?  I’m still undefeated.

We stayed at the pool until lunch and went next door to the original resort part to have lunch.  Their menu, while similar, is more to our liking.  The temps reached 84 F (29 C) today, mostly sunny, with a light breeze if you weren’t at the lap pool.

After lunch was more pool time, naps, and repeat.  We hit the rooms early to watch the Big Ten Tournament as Purdue was taking on Michigan.  Purdue was the lower seed but beat the Wolverines by 8 or 9, winning the championship!  Boiler up!  After the game and while others took showers I had enough time to finish my first book.

We took showers and then went downstairs to the buffet for dinner.  Tonight’s theme was Mediterranean.  We came back to our suite to play games.  Tonight’s contest was called Telestrations.  You drew a scene that the next player guessed to pass on to the next player who drew and the following player guessed until 8 people had either drawn or guessed.  The objective was to end with the same scene that you started with.  It was very rare.  We got close lots of times but only managed like two direct hits across eight players.  But, we laughed until we cried.  Y’all need to ask Sandy about her drawing of the two dogs!  Please…

By 10:30 pm we are all fixin’ to go to bed.  Repeat this scenario another five times before calling this vacation successful.

 Wow.  Short night, like 2.5 hrs but that’s still 2 more hours than my bride.  Headed for the airport at 4 am to crystal clear skies under the star-decked canopy of the universe.  Traffic was light and the airport not too crowded.  Ran into Steve & Glenda Clossin who were on the same flight down here.  Seems both families like to take this week as vacation since we meet up quite frequently in the airport. Flight was smooth and we set a standard that can hypothetically be beat but odds are will never:  plane parked at the closest gate to immigration.  We were the only plane arriving and as we walked up, a second line opened up making us the first in line.  From plane to baggage claim was maybe 5 mins.  No lines at the restrooms.  Sandy’s luggage was second off.  And here’s where the improvement can come - my suitcase was second to last off.  Walked out to private taxi and were in the van before Sandy could get her flops...

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, April 27, 2025

 Sandy and I crashed at 8 pm Saturday night and we did not get up this morning until 8 am.  We put on our suits and slathered before heading to the pool.  Sandy met Nick and Shelby at the pastry shop for breakfast.  And then we waited until 11 am for the bar to open.   We ate lunch at the pool restaurant.  We re-slathered with sunscreen and then stayed at the pool for drinks, naps, and dips to cool off before calling it a day at 5:30.  We took showers and then played two games of cards before heading off to dinner.  Tonight’s fare was not the buffet but a full menu.  Nick and I had fish and the girls had chicken. We did meet our concierge at the pool this morning.  She set us up with reservations for three evening meals - two here at the resort and one steak house off-site.  Other than that, we have no trips / excursions planned.  Our goal is a solid week of lounging around the pool and occasionally checking out the ocean - whi...

Cancun Day 4 - Tues APR 29

 Lather, Rinse, Repeat.  Up at 7:30.  On the pool deck by 8:30.  Lunch at restaurant at Noon.  And here’s where some adventure comes in - someone “borrowed” on of our deck chairs while we were at lunch.  No, they were not sitting in it, but they had moved it and put their stuff on it.  Why do I say it was “ours?”  Because the resort gives you flags to post on the chair allowing you to claim it for the day so long as you do not abandon it for more than 2 consecutive hours - which we had not done.  Besides, my shoes were still sitting under the chair.  To me, no worries.  After putting on more sunscreen I will rightfully reclaim my chair and apologize for their misunderstanding should there be any type of confrontation. Sandy and I beat Shelby and Nick back to the pool deck.  I politely take any extra stuff - towels, sunscreen, shoes - and relocate it to another one of their chairs.  Then we turn our chairs to face W so we g...
