Spring Break Day 5 - Wed Mar 18

It was a day like any other day…

Up and at pool by 9 after Sandy, Andy, Michelle and I had breakfast.  It was a mix of weather today with sun and clouds.  We sat at the lap pool.  Ate lunch at the pool restaurant.  

Played loads of cornhole.  I do not recall all the scores but I can tell you that Austin won maybe two games and the same for Adam.  I think he won two games, maybe three???  But we ended the afternoon with Andy and I playing against Austin and Adam.  They beat us, finally, 21-20 after Andy missed the board Twice!  However, they celebrated like they had just won the Super Bowl.  I think maybe Andy threw the game on purpose so they could get a sense of what it’s like to be a winner!

Andy, Michelle, and Austin all decided since it was cloudy that they should paint some ceramic artwork.  Sandy decided it was a good idea to anger a honey bee and she ended up getting stung on the back of her right arm.  Ouch!

After showers, we split up for dinner.  Sandy, Andy, Austin, and Michelle went to the buffet as it was Italian night.  Kathy, Alex, Lorra and Adam joined me at the Hibachi grill for dinner and a show.

After dinner, Sandy and I took on Andy and Austin at Bid Euchre.  We ended at 10:30 tied up 1-1.  Austin just learned how to play yesterday and is doing quite well.

I finished my second book before calling it a night.  More of the same tomorrow, Pinky…

Cancun ‘25 - Sat NOV 29

 Wow.  Short night, like 2.5 hrs but that’s still 2 more hours than my bride.  Headed for the airport at 4 am to crystal clear skies under the star-decked canopy of the universe.  Traffic was light and the airport not too crowded.  Ran into Steve & Glenda Clossin who were on the same flight down here.  Seems both families like to take this week as vacation since we meet up quite frequently in the airport. Flight was smooth and we set a standard that can hypothetically be beat but odds are will never:  plane parked at the closest gate to immigration.  We were the only plane arriving and as we walked up, a second line opened up making us the first in line.  From plane to baggage claim was maybe 5 mins.  No lines at the restrooms.  Sandy’s luggage was second off.  And here’s where the improvement can come - my suitcase was second to last off.  Walked out to private taxi and were in the van before Sandy could get her flops...

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, April 27, 2025

 Sandy and I crashed at 8 pm Saturday night and we did not get up this morning until 8 am.  We put on our suits and slathered before heading to the pool.  Sandy met Nick and Shelby at the pastry shop for breakfast.  And then we waited until 11 am for the bar to open.   We ate lunch at the pool restaurant.  We re-slathered with sunscreen and then stayed at the pool for drinks, naps, and dips to cool off before calling it a day at 5:30.  We took showers and then played two games of cards before heading off to dinner.  Tonight’s fare was not the buffet but a full menu.  Nick and I had fish and the girls had chicken. We did meet our concierge at the pool this morning.  She set us up with reservations for three evening meals - two here at the resort and one steak house off-site.  Other than that, we have no trips / excursions planned.  Our goal is a solid week of lounging around the pool and occasionally checking out the ocean - whi...

Cancun Day 1 - SPRING 2025 Trip

 It was very early in the morning, like 3:00 o’clock early, when we got up on Saturday, April 26th.  We took showers, fed the pets, and then picked up Nick and Shelby to head for the airport.  It was cooler than predicted, like in the low 40’s (4 C).  And while Sandy and I got about 4 hours sleep, those two “youngsters” stayed up all night! Our flight touched down in Cancun at 9:30 am, which is one hour behind home.  We breezed thru Customs and Immigration and took a taxi to the Royal Sands hotel on the island of Cancun.  Our rooms were not ready yet because we arrived before the previous guests checked out.  So we did what we had to do - ate lunch at the poolside restaurant where Shelby stated, “This is my seat for the rest of the week” as she looked out over the ocean as we sat in a now balmy 81 degrees (27 C).
