Cancun Day 7 - Thur 01 DEC

Hey everybody, it's December and the first Thursday.  I'm missing poker night, but I'm winning since the low here is 74 F.

It was 'posed to rain today and when we arose this morning it was mostly cloudy.  We called an audible "Oklahoma!" and took a bus to the La Isla mall for a day of shopping.  We had lunch at Johnny Rockets, and enjoyed the burgers quite a bit.  We shopped - and in fact, we completed our shopping for this trip.  The sun broke out, so we came back to the hotel and switched to our suits and hit the sun deck.

I talked Sandy into joining me in the ocean.  Yes, that is correct.  This is not a typo.  Sandy went into the ocean.  We could walk out almost 100 yards before it got deep enough to be a concern.  So she took her phone and her little hiney out there with me.  Check out the pictures:

One of Sandy's co-workers (Lesley) threatened to bring brussel sprouts to a family dinner, so Sandy sent her this picture while Lesley was at work today.  Sandy was called a Brat.

Enjoying a strawberry colada on the sun deck - in December!

While we were there on the sun deck, we were treated to an air show - of sorts.  Three P40's (see yesterday's post) flew over in formation.  They went out over the ocean, came back and turned on their smoke.  They flew over four more times, again in formation, tipping, spinning, and staying all together.  Of course this caught the attention of everyone, so I took the opportunity to ask the bartender what was going on.  The military is "on exercise."  That is why we were seeing the boats and the P40's all week.  I asked why the military was using WWII-era planes.  The bartender, who may or may not be in the know, said that they keep the jets private or secret and use these propeller planes to entertain the public.  I for one was properly entertained.  And these planes were something to behold.  Well maintained and beautiful works of machinery.

We came back to the room about Happy Hour, which for the hotel is 3 - 5 pm, but for us is all the time since we are on vacation.  We showered up and headed to Puerto Madero for dinner.  And I must say that this was the finest meal we have had this week.  We ordered the garlic shrimp for appetizers - and they provided an endless bread basket with multiple options.  For the main course, Sandy had the rib eye steak with baked potato (that was the size of her head).  I had grilled Alaska King crab legs.  Service was prompt and friendly, like almost everywhere in Cancun.  We sat outside on the deck over the lagoon and watched the sun go down over the fountains in the water.  It was getting crowded as we left at 8 pm.  Seems like a lot of people know you will get a great meal at a better value there.  We talked about taking the kids there next time they come with us instead of Cambalache (which, by the way, has relocated to La Isla).

The moon is out as we start our dinner on the lagoon at Puerto Madero.
Top marks from us!  If you're in Cancun - eat here!

When we got back to the room, we called and checked in with Mom.  She and Dad are the only ones we had not spoken with yet this week.  Mom shared that Nancy Doyle is reading this rag that I put out.  I was not even sure the family is checking in and now I have followers in Mulberry!  Nearly famous.

Tomorrow is setting up to be more of the same.  It's still good to be us.
