Back in Cancun - Long Travel Day 30 NOV 2019

Our flight left Indianapolis at 5:10 am on Saturday, 30 NOV.  That means that we left Mulberry at 2:30 am.  A little bit later than Sandy wanted, but we made it okay.  Lots of traffic for that early in the AM, but it was speedy - even in the rain.

We parked at Fly & Ride and took a shuttle to the airport.  Only one side of Security was open, but not many people.  Passed through quickly enough that we had an hour to spare once we made it to our gate.

We flew into Charlotte, NC.  The C gates were all under construction.  We did not have to walk far to get to our D gate.  We grabbed some snacks and were off again.  The planes were not that full at all.

I do not remember much of either flight.  I do not recall the safety briefing, as I was out.  I just stayed up all night instead of trying to catch any sleep.  But after 25 hours, I was beyond tired and crashed quickly.

We arrived in Cancun by 11:30 am and to our hotel, the Royal Sands, by Noon.  But as we checked in, we were told that we have only the B-side of the suite.  We ALWAYS get the A-side.  We called the reservation place and were told that nothing was available for us to rent on the A-side all week.  Not what we expected, but hey, we are in Cancun!  We can cry all we want about ONLY having the B side while we enjoy the beach, pool, weather, food, drinks, etc.

We grabbed a quick lunch and then put on our suits to sleep on the sun deck.  We took showers and then ate dinner here at the hotel as well.  After dinner, it was bedtime.  I was out by 7 pm.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
