Cancun Day 2 - Saturday, 27 NOV 2021

 We slept for 12 hours, rolling out of bed at 8 this morning.  We joined Alex for breakfast at the buffet restaurant.  Kathy went to save us chairs by the pool.  Adam and Lorra joined us after breakfast at the pool.  The new government rules do not allow the sale of alcohol until 11 am - it was a long wait by the pool.

Since we are here for 8 days, we have to change rooms.  Well, except for Kathy & Alex.  So we all put our gear in their room for the day waiting on our new rooms.

We had full sun, a few clouds, and lots of drinks before eating lunch at the pool bar.  We watched the end of the Ohio State v. Michigan football game at the swim up bar TV and #5 M beat #2 OS.  Wow.  We left the pool and went to the hotel bar - that we had to ourselves - where we watched Purdue pounce the crap out of Indiana.  Then we ate a late dinner at the buffet restaurant.  It was Caribbean Night with live music.

Will & Hadley called to chat with Mom, Dad, Grandma & Papaw as we were in line to get into the restaurant.  We had a good chat with them.  They are staying at their house with Grandma Anne and Papaw Steve (Alex's parents).  We have a housesitter watching our place and taking care of the pets.

We saw three of the local felines (kitty cats) on the way to dinner and then Alex & Kathy spooked a coati (Mexican raccoon) on the way back to their room.

We took a few "couples" photos on the beach before calling it an early-ish night.  More football on TV, but we are not long for this world.

Overall a nice day in paradise.  No plans for activities yet as we are still just relaxing.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
