Cancun Day 6 - Wednesday 01 DEC

 We woke up to the first day of December to a cloudy day.  We met Kathy & Alex on the sundeck about 9 am.  Lorra & Adam were on their way to Tulum.

We swam a bit before lunch at the pool.  And then we went to the activity area and played corn hole.  The boys whipped the girls 3-0.  We switched up teams and all you need to know is that I never lost a game.  I went 7-0.  Sandy said she threw the games on purpose so as not to hurt my fragile ego after the girls winning last night.  Everyone knows that is False.

We all met in the hotel lobby at 5 pm for the Christmas party and raffles.  Tickets were $20 each, but there were lots of prizes and the money went to under-privileged kids.  So we did not care if we won a thing or not.  Hot Mexican Tea was served while they drew winners.  Prizes ranged from spa days, to wine baskets, to a weeks' stay at this resort.  You want to know the only winner in our group?  It was Sandy.  Want to know what she won?  Kathy called it when they read the prize - a spa day where you put your feet in a tank of fish and let them eat off all your dead flesh!  Awesome.  That will probably go to waste.

Then, the entire crowd went outside for the lighting of the Christmas tree in the parking lot.  And right from a scene of Vacation Christmas - after the countdown, the tree lit for 0.5 seconds and then went out.  We all counted down again and the tree lit.

That was followed by a dinner of Italian night at the buffet restaurant.  Good food.  And as we are all tired, we retired to our rooms to watch a little Big Ten basketball and call it a night.

Not much sun out today.  Lots of clouds.  But perfect for taking a tour of the ruins in Tulum.  Not bad for a break.  Alex and I did also make it into the ocean and saw our second sting ray.  Good day.  Beats working!

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
