Cancun Day 6 - Thursday 03 Dec

Up about the usual time today, but it was raining. 
Girls went to the art shop and painted. Seems like that was the thing to do as they were crowded.

We walked next door to have lunch at Xkat-Il, you know, the place with the awesome corn chowder. We sat there and let the rain stop, as it has been off and on all day.

Came back and played cards. The girls finally doubled their win tally to 2, as we split today 1-1. Should make the good guys up about 10-2, or somewhere in there.  And to be honest, you should have heard us whine when we did not get the cards and lost a game.  No sympathy from the women.

We read books, played with our electronic devices, and took showers.

Lazy, rainy, day in Cancun. The Indians are getting restless.

We headed for the Captain's Cove for dinner at 6. The rain is over.  We figure we will get no sympathy from anyone not here in Cancun with us- aww, it rained all day? Yep.  But it was still 75 and rain on the beach.  Still winning.

Came back and watched the end of Jeopardy, and have the Green Bay game on for Shelby.  The Pack is getting pounded by Detroit. Shelby is sad for her team but still happy to be in Cancun.

    hopefully Shelby didn't give up on them...they tried really hard to give Detroit a chance and then just snatched it away

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
