Cancun Day 5 - Wednesday, 08 FEB 2023

 Today was breezy.  Good thing too as it was up to 81 F (27 C) with mostly sun.  We grabbed the pool back in the corner by the women’s restroom to allow for more privacy and less noise (except for what we made).  It sprinkled a little this morning and with the wind, kept things cooler - too cool for Kathy, as you can see by the photo.

As soon as the rain let up and we were all back out sunning ourselves (like 5 mins, tops) Karma came up and gave me a big ole bite of Shut Your Face.  How, you ask?  By “big rain drops” hitting the deck behind me and on my forearm.  Too large, in fact, to be rain.  Yep, sure enough.  I was the one pooped on today.  I quickly wiped it off and told no one, and since no one saw it, only you (dear reader) and me are the ones who now know about it.  Mind you, we have been coming to Cancun for 30 years.  That’s three zero YEARS.  And never, ever, has anyone been pooped on before.  And now in the span of two days - three of us got hit by machine gun birds!  What gives???  Oh well, this will make for good laughs tomorrow if any of the gang here is reading what I’m putting down.

We stayed at the pool and ate in shifts - even though we tried to get over to Paco’s Tacos next door (they are only open from 4 - 9).  How sad.  We returned to the rooms at 4:30, showered, and threw a couple games of Euchre (Kathy & I at 2 games, Sandy & Alex at 0, Nick & Sandy at 1) before going down to the Mexican restaurant for dinner.  Mind you, they did not serve Mexican food, only that the restaurant was in Mexico.  Food was good though and desserts better.  Maybe a drink or two or twelve may have been consumed.

Back to the room to play some more Euchre (Kathy & I at 1, Nick & Sandy at 1).  Then we all joined in Disney’s Cards Against Humanity.  Todd and Lesley called it an early night because they plan on a SCUBA driving trip early in the morning.  Hopefully we did not keep them up with our laughter from the card games.

Two days to go until we must return to reality.  Still hanging strong and still having fun.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
