Greetings & Salutations!

Family and Friends,

My iPad will be in tow when we hit Cancun in a week or so.  My plan is to sit down each evening and create a simple blog post to update everyone.  My hope is that I can post pictures and videos here instead of filling your INBOX with all those mega-bytes of data.

We'll still probably call and "check-in" with some of you all.  But if the rest of you wish to live vicariously through this blog for a week, feel free.

Will do a test update with my iPad to ensure it's viable and not too cumbersome.

T-minus ten days and counting.....

    When are you leaving? Who is driving? Will you remember to wear your seatbelt? Is there anyone under the age of 18 going with you? Will there be alcohol? Will there be drugs? Will there be parental supervision? Who else is going to be there? What time are you heading home? How many more turns to get home? (for you Kathy) Do you have your phone with you? Do you have a quarter to call someone in case of an emergency? Make sure you are never alone in a foreign country! Do you know the number to the US Consulate there? I don't know if I am ready for you to take this trip or not, but if you insist on going, you probably better call each night! ;)

    Cool idea! Keep the blogs coming.
    For us it's T-minus 2 days and counting until we are soaking up the sunshine in Florida. Planning to have a fantastic holiday. Hope the same for you in Cancun.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
