Attack of the Sun

Yesterday, I think was Wednesday. We spent the day at the pool. Ordered lunch there. It was not quite as hot and there was a nice 8-10 mph breeze. Because it felt cooler, we didn't realize the quantity of sun rays our bodies were cumulating. Needless to say, one of us has sun poisoning and the other has a big pink belly.

My lack of wearing a shirt and not reapplying sunscreen means that I will now be wearing a shirt full time for the remainder of the trip. The big pink belly is tender but not miserable enough to keep me awake at night.

We went downtown Cabo for dinner at Desperados. Kinda an old west style saloon meets sports bar. We had excellent food there and must recommend that to anyone who makes it to Cabo. We also watched college football while we ate. Brought about half of it back for breakfast this morning.

Shortest night of sleep to date. Only got 10 hours (11 pm - 9 am). Although Sandy says she not getting very restful sleep - up several times a night.

Oh yeah, I didn't mention that our room has two double beds. So we are each enjoying the space of our own beds. Kinda like Hall Pass, but only not. Sandy did say she was waiting all night Saturday for a cat to jump on her. Never happened.

Not much exciting for Wednesday. Still horrible in paradise.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
