It's Good to be the King!

So just outside the pool deck entryway from our hotel sits this giant chess/checkers game set. Of course I had to replace the king piece with myself. Sandy says I'll never know that it's good to be the king.....




Pawn jumps queen. Rook jumps queen. Bishop jumps queen.....

Ate dinner last night at Le Perla, two buildings down. Once again we have failed to eat a bad meal. Pa Jerry would be happy to eat in Cabo, as the restaurants don't even open until 6 pm.

Back up and at the pool before 9 again this morning. Lots of chairs reserved, but not many people out.

Yesterday was "lawn work" day. Sounds like they're finishing up this morning.

Supposed to be cooler today, only reaching 88. Gave up on the observation deck altogether. Too hot. Need to be by the pool for cooler air and ample opportunities to get wet.

I did notice that the times that say when each blog post is updated still reflects Indiana time and not Cabo time. Subtract 3 hours from each time stamp.

Called and checked in with Kathy and Bopum Barb last night. Tried to call Nick at home but he did not answer at 5:50 pm local.

Sandy sent email updates to some of her coworkers and we've gotten one reply. Which did indeed make Sandy laugh.

We were going to try to visit the arch today but awoke to cruise ships four and five in the harbor. May want to delay until they're gone.

More of the same today: sun, pool, beer, repeat.

    it's okay to dream about being the king on vacation, but in a few days, it's back to reality!

    although, if you're the king, I'm assuming that would make me the princess and next in line to the throne (since England changed their policy about males being better...ha!...so did we). if that is the case, I might accept you being the king.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
