Tuesday is landscaping day here at the King Kamehameha Club (sorry, throwback for all the Magnum PI fans out there). Lawn mowers were running before 0800. So we got up and hit the pool before 9. Laid across from the pool bar til lunch time. Ate at the Mayan again - cheeseburgers in paradise - check the pics.

Back to the room to change and hit the sun deck. The room stool got stuck in flush mode. No biggie, I can fix that. Pulled the top off and created a fountain. Pretty sure the hose is broken - but it works by spraying water on the lid and filling the tank. At this point, NMP.

The sun deck was hot. No wind today and 88F. Sandy says neither Kathy or Shelby would need a sweatshirt today and probably would have gotten in the pool to cool down - like Sandy did 4X, and dunked her head. Yes, it's that hot. Thank goodness for frozen beverages from the pool bar.

Took a bus up to the Flamingo Mall late this afternoon. We had a coupon for a free charm from the Lapis jewelry store. We had to sign in and wear badges and we were escorted. This is the old Planet Hollywood store revamped. Saw some neat and expensive jewelry. Bought nothing.

Bought vanilla for all the folks back in Indiana and returned to our hotel for taco night. Kinda just happened into that meal and it was excellent. Dessert was cinnamon crisps with caramel syrup. Sandy was in heaven and ate 3 - one for Kathy and one for Shelby along with one for herself. The guys? I got you all covered with rum! You're welcome.

Forecast predicts rain for the next two days but temps stay in the 80's. If so, we'll hit the museum next door. We are NOT missing the weather back home. Still no sun poisoning.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
