Cancún Day 3 - Monday 08 Dec

Ok. So we're on vacation. I really have no clue what day it is. Dave Porrill is celebrating tomorrow, not today.

Sandy hit the pool at 8:30 this morning. I stayed away this morning as I got plenty of sun yesterday. She came back up for lunch at Noon. We went next door as the Welcome Party was today and we wanted to avoid the crowd.

Clouds rolled in, but weather was pleasant. We stayed out until 4. I hit the beach and did some body surfing. And let me tell ya, this is a lot of body to surf. I judge the surf by distance and clothing to retrieve. I hit the sand twice and had to pull my suit back up. That's some good surfing!

We ate dinner here at the hotel for Cajun Night. Food was excellent and Sandy had a drink for Leslie. I actually tried the Cajun meatloaf and then had two pieces of German Chocolate cake - it was so fluffy I almost died! Sandy took photos to verify and eventually to haze Shelby with.

Then we went to old town and did the pub crawl home. Sandy was puking after 6 tequila shots and I have no clue how we made it back to our room. Thankful, we did.
That last bit, that's a lie. I just wanted to see how many folks are actually reading this stuff I post.

    Correction about the anniversary date noted, thanks - I am reading these posts in succession on Thursday and actually didn't realise you had the day wrong. No biggie, it was a great day whatever day it was!

    I raised an eyebrow when reading the bit about Sandy after 6 tequilas ... not sure I believed it at first, but thought, "Maybe this lady likes to party when in Cancun!"

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
