Monday March 4

Yesterday, our pool chairs were next to some guys from the east coast. Entertaining for a while, but annoying enough that we switched locations.

We ate lunch at the Mayan with the goal of having cheeseburgers in paradise. Alas, their lunch special was quesadillas which suited us both nicely. New seats after lunch. Stayed out til after 3.

Showers and some basketball viewing before hitting the Cove for dinner. We sat inside due to the wind, but went outside to take pictures. We shoulda sat outside.







There was no one guarding the front desk as we left the Cove, so I ended up with enough dinner mints for the rest of the week!

We both read until sleepy time. Mama was out by 9, I read til 11:30.

First up at 7:30 am today because the maintenance guys were Mowing! Followed by the weed eater. Gorgeous looking day today. No wind and full sun. We're lathering up to go find a sit spot by the pool.

When we first arrived, my Lilly email worked fine. Now it does not. My speculation is that my password expired and I can only reset it on my laptop. Oh well, won't be reading any Lilly emails. All other email works fine for Sandy and me.

Sending a shout out to Pa Jerry who turns 73 tomorrow! Nick has your card, but I suspect you'll need to stop by the house and pick it up.

More of the same today as yesterday. Our only concern is where to eat dinner tonight.

    It's a rough life in paradise! Sounds like you are having a good time and getting lots of R&R.

    Way to go with the dinner mints! Serves them right for not guarding their stash.

    Don't worry about the Lilly e-mails ... they are probably not important and they will be waiting for you when you get home.

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
