Cancun 2022 - Day 8 - Sat March 12

 Last night, mistakes were made.  When I last signed off, we were heading down to the Sports Bar to watch Purdue win their basketball game.  The first sign - there were no tables.  No biggie, we thought as the other game was just ending.  We waited for a table and finally got one.  It was then that we realized it was also karaoke night.  No, I could not convince Sandy to get up on stage and sing with me!

We made it only through the first half of the game.  It was too loud, crowded, and the annoying group in front of us was well into intoxication land.  We came back to our nice quiet room and watched the updates via the internet.  It was much more enjoyable.

Today I rolled out at 8:30.  My bride was on the patio eating her breakfast.  We loaded up on sunscreen and then headed for the sundeck.  It was a perfect morning, maybe a bit on the hot side as the wind has greatly subsided.  It was supposed to be raining, but we had full sun.  It was so warm that I cooled off in the pool three times before lunch and Sandy jumped in twice!  A new record - before lunch.

Lunch was the usual at the Char Hut next to the pool.  More sunscreen then back to the sundeck.  It clouded up about 3:30 pm.  We came back to the room and by 4 it was dumping buckets.  We waited the rain out by going back to the Sports Bar and watching Purdue beat Michigan State.  This time we stayed for the entire game.  We do think, however, that if CBS carries the championship tomorrow then we can watch it in our room.

After the game we grabbed a taxi to La Isla to do some shopping.  Very minor shopping.  Grabbed dinner at Johnny Rockets and listened to old time music.  We knew most of the tunes but not all of the singers.  For example, who sang My Little Runaway?  We used Google for the assist.

Returned to the room by 7:30 pm.  Dark outside and the power has flickered at least three times.  As long as it stays on, we're good.  Tomorrow morning is our Covid test and the weather is only to reach 77 F (25 C) for the high.  That's okay.  It beats the weather back in Indiana.  Besides, if the sun is out I can guarantee that these guns will be out!

Cancun Day 2 - Sunday, March 10

 Will and Alex joined me and Grandma Sandy for breakfast.  The fruit smoothies were the biggest hit.  The rest of the crew slept in and joined us at the pool later.  Those grandkids are little fish.  We had to force them to take breaks.  They would still be there if we let them! We had lunch by the pool and then made the kids relax for about an hour before hitting the kiddie pool - with slides.  We hit the beach, swam in the ocean a bit and then built sand castles.  We returned to the pool for the entire afternoon. We ate dinner as a group of 12 at the buffet here in the resort.  Hadley fell asleep at the table and Will just barely made it through his ice cream before they all headed off to bed.  They were out by 7:30 pm.  The grandkids were exhausted but having a great time down here. It was hot today, 90 F with little to no breeze at all.  There was a heat index warning as the humidity was up, making it feel a lot hotter.  No complaints though as the pool feels great! Retirement Party Cancun 2024 - Day 1

 Sandy and I are both now officially retired as I hung it up Saturday, 09 MAR - which happened to coincide with us traveling to Cancun for a party with the family.  It was a real short night though as we started our drive to Indy at 3:30am.  The airport was busy, but not packed.  We waited in line to check-in but breezed thru Security.  We were delayed leaving the tarmac but only arrived in Mexico 20 mins behind our original arrival time. It seems that we got lucky as flights were getting delayed or canceled all around us.  Upon arrival in Mexico, we never even stopped in line thru Immigration as there were that many agents open and no one there checking in.  It was awesome.  Luggage took a while as you could imagine, but we made it onto the bus at 11:30.  The drive to Playa del Carmen took about an hour, then check in, then walk down to lunch.  It was 1:30 pm before we were getting food. Cancun Day 3 - Monday March 11

 We got a text that Will was “starving” at 7:55.  We understood - well, we laughed first.  He slept for 11 hours and it was time to eat.  We agreed to meet for breakfast at 8:15.  Alex, Will, Mallory, and Shelby met me and grandma at the buffet.  What about everyone else?  Kathy and Hadley showed up at the pool about 10.  Nick and Wes sometime around 11.  And we did not see Andy and Austin until after lunch.  And that’s exactly how vacations are supposed to work.  Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, and do it all over again for a week! So today, when the kids decided to build sand castles on the beach, we walked to the other side of the resort - where we found, yes sand, but also fewer rocks and tree stumps in the water.  All but the youngest grandchild went into the ocean again.  Then we collectively built Hadrian’s Wall to protect the castle  before erecting the towers.  This took long enough on all fours that we could feel the sun working too much on our backs.  We call
